The one and only 9.9 copy of The Incredible Hulk #181 has been consigned to ComicLink with a whopping asking price of $150,000. Not bad for a book that originally cost 20 cents! Here is the press release from Comic Link! CGC 9.9 Incredible Hulk #181 at ComicLink “Here it is: the comic book we’ve been waiting over 10 years to get on consignment! The one and only Incredible Hulk #181 in CGC 9.9,” said ComicLink’s Josh Nathanson. Tucked away as soon as it was certified in the early days of CGC, it has never been offered for sale. “Who knew back then that it would remain the single highest graded until now? [With] over 4,500 Hulk #181s graded by CGC, this is the only one graded 9.9!” Scarcer than the 9.8 copies of the same issue by a multiple of 38 times (and counting), this is the one to get for the most serious CGC collector of high-grade Marvels, Nathanson said. “It is scarcer in CGC 9.9 than Amazing Fantasy #15 is in 9.4, Fantastic Four #1 is in 9.4, Tales to Astonish #27 is CGC 9.4, Incredible Hulk #1 is in CGC 9.2, and Amazing Spider-Man #1 is [...]

In August of 1974, President Richard Nixon resigned his presidency, Annie’s Song by John Denver had just reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and a new character by the name of Wolverine graced the cover of The Incredible Hulk #181. Even though Wolverine first appeared in the very last panel of The Incredible Hulk #180 which came out a month prior, his first full appearance was in The Incredible Hulk #181 – and it is this reason #181 is worth more to collectors. If we only knew then what we knew now! Almost immediately after his debut, the demand for this issue started increasing to the point to where we are today. Originally this issue could have been purchased for 25 cents, but good luck trying to do that again. Average condition copies of this comic now sell in the $300 to $800 dollar range – with a very high grade copy of Hulk 181 signed by Stan Lee recently selling for over $30,000! Impressed? Don’t be just yet… there is one copy in existence which has graded a 9.9 out of a possible 10 – a grade for this issue which in all likelihood will never be [...]

Do you want to turn this into this?? Perhaps you have seen copies of Hulk 181 that have been graded and you have always wondered how they get it done. Or, you may know, but might just be a bit scared or timid to send your beloved copy in as you think your mailman might have a grudge against you. Fear not, for we are prepared to take the mystery out of the submission and grading process! There is a great company in Sarasota, Florida called the Certified Guaranty Company, LLC, or “CGC” for short. You might have heard the expression “CGC it” or “you should get it graded” and nodded in agreement, but secretly don’t have a clue where to even begin. Also, you might have an idea about this company, but might be afraid to send it to them as you are not quite sure what will happen to the book once it leaves your hands. As far as safety is concerned, think of it this way – the copy of Action Comics #1 featuring the first appearance of Superman below was graded by the very same company of which I speak, and it sold for $1,000,000! If [...]

Wondering why The Incredible Hulk #181 is worth so much? What is it about this comic that continues to push demand through the roof and make it almost as liquid as cash? If you invested $25 on 100 copies of Hulk 181 in August of 1974 and safely stored them away, you would have a collection worth $100,000 to $1,000,000 today assuming they all graded 9.0′s to 9.8′s! In fact, it has gotten so valuable, a handful of very high grade copies of Hulk #181 have become worth their weight in gold or even platinum! An average comic book weighs approximately 5 ounces. At the time this post was published, the last 9.6 condition copy of Hulk #181 sold for $4,800 or $960 an ounce and the last 9.8 condition copy sold for a whopping $17,050 or $3,410 an ounce! Gold’s current price is about $1,200 a troy ounce and Platinum is trading at about $1,500 an ounce. So – what makes this book so valuable? The Top 7 Reasons Hulk #181 is Worth So Much! #7 – “Seeing Red!” (..and yellow) Does the cover of Hulk #181 make you angry, impulsive, attract your attention and possibly crave a McDonald’s [...]
